November 2012 Monthly Meditation: Gratitude & Thanks

Our world is filled with need, but look deeper and you will also see millions of people working to meet those needs. Our Foundress, Cornelia Connelly, described this as “meeting the wants of the age” or in everyday terms, responding to the needs of our time. As we celebrate Thanksgiving later this month, consider these questions: What are you thankful for in your own life? Are there ways you are being called to make a difference in the lives of others? What is your first step to taking action? Share your ideas below our meditation.

As the presidential election reaches the final stretch, we are reminded of the importance of each and every vote. As you make your choices, consider the far-stretching ramifications your choices hold. Think of all those who will be impacted by your choices. Consider the following and share your thoughts below: How do my choices reflect the needs of the common good? What are ways I can respect and be tolerant of the beliefs of others?

Monthly Meditation: August 2012

It seems the 2012 presidential election has gone into full swing here in the U.S. You can’t turn on the TV or radio or hop on the internet without hearing political commentary or seeing a political ad. So this month we are focusing our meditation and reflection on how we find what is right and just–and how we experience God–in the midst of all the political rhetoric. Take a few minutes to reflect and then consider these questions: Where do I feel God is in the midst of the 2012 presidential campaign? Where in my life do I see and experience the multifaceted and multicolored issues? How do I let God’s light shine on them? How am I called to bring forth love in these issues? Share your thoughts below in our comments section. We want to hear from you!

“I am so busy.”

“I have too much on my plate.”

“I don’t know if I’m coming or going.”

How often have we uttered these words or heard them spoken by friends and family members? In a world that runs 24/7, it is essential to slow down, take stock, and pray.

Since 2010, the American Province of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus has created monthly meditations that are posted on our website. Designed to be topical and encourage reflection on modern themes, the meditations have been a source of comfort and strength for many.

In preparing topics for our 2012 meditations, we examined the issues that were grabbing the headlines–poverty, unemployment, war, and more. We understand that these issues have a profound impact on the lives of many. To determine which concerns resonate most with the members of our Holy Child community, we invite all to complete our survey by this Friday, January 6, 2012. It will take less than three minutes to complete and will greatly inform our meditations for 2012. To date, we’ve had close to 400 people respond and share their thoughts. Let your voice be heard too! Complete the survey today!

Based on the survey responses, we will produce three-five minute meditations that can be viewed on our website. We hope the members of the Holy Child Community—and beyond—will use these meditations to find peace in their lives and help in building a worldwide community of prayer.
